Update on SPM Australia

We have a proposal to establish a chapter of the Society in Australia working with the Health
Information Society of Australia (HISA), with the support of their CEO, Louise Schaper, and.  Board members Michael Gill, and George Margelis.  We hope to meet with Louise in Washington D.C. on November 19 for further discussions.

Report from Health 2.0

Sarah Krug and Alan Greene presented in a session that was focused on participatory medicine.  We had a strong presence there and held a Meet Up that included many of our West Coast members and several corporate prospects who indicated they would join and support SPM. Julia will follow up with them.

Internship

Nancy has been in touch with Boston University and they have posted a description of the internship position in all relevant places.  We have also been in touch with member Lisa Gualtieri, Adjunct Professor in Health Communications at Tufts Medical School. She has indicated that she may be able to find us an intern.

Alliance with the American College of Physicians

Executive Committee members met with the ACP and discussed opportunities for working
together as a part of their new Center for Patient Partnership in Healthcare on several  projects including: a How/To Manual for Patients/Clinicians; a needs assessment on patients engagement, issues related to medical education; a way to aggregate research on participatory medicine; and SPM involvement on the Center’s Advisory Board.  A follow up meeting is scheduled for early October.
