Next meeting:    June 14, 2011, 4-5p EST via Webex

I.    Announcements/Background

  • New members welcomed, including Jon, Maria, Ann, Mike
  • Minutes of last meeting (1/19/2011) reviewed
  • Focus of this meeting outlined – should we continue with the approach identified in January – – to focus on Value proposition, Salon event, Corp Member survey, etc.?
  • We reviewed budget – showing $20,000 budgeted for fundraising
  • We reviewed corporate members – 1 Gold and 3 Bronze (same in Fy09 and Fy10; Fy10 ends on 6/30/11)

II.    Discussion

  • SPM Value statements (& value proposition) are critical
    • Current SPM goals are not clear enough to potential members
    • Goal: a unified vision with core beliefs
    • Appeal to individual members and corporate members are different but related and must be developed in coordination with one another
    • Discussed the idea of surveying members (and potential members) to understand perceived value of SPM for (or ideas how SPM can support) participatory medicine
    • Identified potential “products” of SPM – J of Participatory Medicine, Certification, etc.
      • Should this remain public, or for members only access?
  • Having a hired person (e.g., Executive Director or even a talented assistant to start) would help
    • At least $150k to hire an ED, estimated
    • Individual should focus on fundraising a major priority
    • Critical for Board to be in charge of “direction” of ED, if hired
  • Target goals for fundraising are needed – to answer the questions: how much is needed and how much can be raised?
    • SPM needs to become self-sustaining
    • Four corporate members currently contribute $35k (Gold-$20k plus three Bronze-$5k each) – how can they be re-recruited?
    • $20k is available in budget, for fundraising
    • Need membership targets – how many of each type (individual, innovator, bronze, silver, gold)? Should amounts be preserved?
  • Salon idea discussed
    • Goals: explore Corporate interest in SPM; idea of certification;
      • We discussed concepts, people to invite, travel budget, avoiding corporate sponsors, speakers, date, place?
    • Event in San Francisco makes sense – David Lansky on point
      • Portion of $20k budgeted could support this
    • June 2011 is possible but would be rushed
    • Ann suggested a second Salon Event on the east coast, Sept. 20 & 21, with e-Patients Connection, http://epatient2011.com/
      • Venue: Hyatt at the Bellevue, 200 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA 19102
