This is, frankly, the most heartening event I&#8217;ve been to: the Foundation people are working hard to generate real transformation in the practice of medicine, including the new <a href=\"http:\/\/choosingwisely.org\" target=\"_blank\">Choosing Wisely<\/a> campaign with <em>Consumer Reports<\/em>, how ABIM certifies doctors in various specialties, etc. And as I said the other day, there were several patients and patient advocates here.<\/p>\n<p>But doing good work doesn&#8217;t mean we can&#8217;t have a little fun. :-) \u00a0The other day somebody noted a new acronym about excessive testing, particularly radiology, which is widely known to be a waste of money <em>and <\/em>risky if overused, because every scan exposes patients to radiation. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.diagnosticimaging.com\/safety\/content\/article\/113619\/1647429\" target=\"_blank\">Radiologists call for national strategy to address medical imaging overuse<\/a> &#8211; <em>Diagnostic Imaging<\/em>, Aug 2010)\u00a0The new acronym is\u00a0VOMIT:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>V<\/strong>ictim<br \/>\n<strong>O<\/strong>f<br \/>\n<strong>M<\/strong>ultiple<br \/>\n<strong>I<\/strong>mage<br \/>\n<strong>T<\/strong>echnologies<\/p>\n<p>It spread like wildfire on Twitter. <!--more-->Before long, radiologist Geraldine McGinty @gmcginty <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gmcginty\/status\/230055244036464640\" target=\"_blank\">responded<\/a>, &#8220;I like this better:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>S<\/strong>mart<br \/>\n<strong>U<\/strong>se of<br \/>\n<strong>I<\/strong>maging<br \/>\n<strong>T<\/strong>echnology<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong>aves&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hear it for that!<\/p>\n<p>Will this year&#8217;s Forum be remembered as the year of Suits &amp; Vomit?
