Content, often developed by health professionals or educators, can be medical-heavy and design-light. My litmus test when when I see something is simple. Can I figure out what it\u2019s about? Is it relevant to peoples&#8217; lives? If more than a sentence, does it hold my attention? All 3 criteria must be met, or, fuggedaboutit.\u00a0<strong><\/strong>Anything more &#8211; humor or cool design &#8211; gets extra points.<\/p>\n<p>So hats off to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthit.gov\/buzz-blog\/health-innovation\/animated-video-explains-advancements-technology-giving-tools-access-information-manage-health\/\" target=\"_blank\">Office of the National Coordinator<\/a> (ONC), for the debut of their new video, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthit.gov\/patients-families\/video\/health-it-you-giving-you-access-your-medical-records\" target=\"_blank\">Health IT for You: Giving You Access to Your Medical Records When and Where They&#8217;re Needed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s quite appealing &#8211; the music, the images, the colors. The best part is that it pushes a vision that doesn&#8217;t fully exist yet, hoping to increase consumer demand.<br \/>\n<object width=\"560\" height=\"315\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"https:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/8vh7_RXfylw?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s whimsical and upbeat, while talking about real important stuff: change for the better, upgrading care to the 21st century, and way better communication.<\/p>\n<p>I really like &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Giving doctors, nurses and ourselves flexibility to access and share health information securely when and where it\u2019s needed<\/p>\n<p>So everyone is on the same page, not pages, and that\u2019s a good thing<\/p>\n<p>Convenience to check results, manage chronic diseases, make a shared plan<\/p>\n<p>Health IT gives you and your loved ones access to the bigger picture<\/p>\n<p>Not only saves times it can save lives<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Kudos to Lygeia Ricciardi (@Lygeia) and others at ONC who developed this, in particular SPM members who advised ONC: Regina Holliday, Jane Sarasohn-Kahn, Alexandra Drane, Eva Powell, Shirley Bergin, Julie Norris and Peter Basch.<\/p>\n<p>Listen, enjoy, share and don&#8217;t forget to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthit.gov\/buzz-blog\/health-innovation\/animated-video-explains-advancements-technology-giving-tools-access-information-manage-health\/\" target=\"_blank\">give ONC feedback<\/a> about how to <strong>turn up the volume of patient and family voices<\/strong> and make this vision reality &#8211; and mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been in healthcare for awhile, yet must admit that a lot of information packaged for patients\/consumers is pretty dry and not too creative.
