Kathy Kastner is Blogger and Curator for\u00a0<a title=\"Kathy Kastner's blog - Best Endings\" href=\"http:\/\/bestendings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">bestendings.com\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<a title=\"Kathy Kastner's blog Ability for Life\" href=\"http:\/\/ability4life.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ability4life.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I was so pleased to have SPM president, Sarah Krug, invite me to present at Patients 2.0 \u2013 Health2.0 pre-conference.\u00a0\u00a0The theme: the patient doctor relationship, and Sarah\u2019s clever metaphor, The Patient Doctor Tango mirrored the patient journey in four stages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding a Diagnosis<\/li>\n<li>Preparing for a visit<\/li>\n<li>Selecting a treatment<\/li>\n<li>Between Visits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sarah used the <a title=\"Doctor-Patient Tango\" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/D9JHTU7LYgM\" target=\"_blank\">beautifully and oh so smartly-produced video<\/a> that carefully and thoughtfully aligned the delicate precision, the diligence and dedication required of Tango dancers and of the patient-doctor relationship. As a video producer, Sarah totally wowed me with production values, sensitive scripting and thoughtfully chosen dance steps, as she\u00a0said: \u2018the Tango is a sensuous dance: I didn\u2019t want to distract from my message&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>I was last on the roster, with one of my favourite soap-boxes: patients living lives in between doctors appointments.\u00a0Certainly, I have my own experiences, opinions and judgements but \u2013 coming as I did from MedicineX, where I was privileged to be an ePatient Scholar \u2013 woah! did I come with the riches of a diverse ePatient population who rely on their virtual communities for insights from day to day experience and experiments, and for support and understanding.<\/p>\n<p>Many MedX-er ePatients who are also SPM-ers have created apps based on their experience, Natasha Gajewski, creator of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sympleapp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/sympleapp.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another, Amy Gleason, demo-ing\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.caresync.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">www.caresync.com<\/a>\u00a0was my co-presenter, who fielded this question from the audience:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How do you get from \u2018n\u2019 of 1- ie patient helping patient \u2013 vs rigorous sample size&#8221;\u00a0Amy\u2019s Answer: \u201cI spoke to hundreds of patients, so I don\u2019t understand this \u2018n\u2019 of 1\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meeting SPM-ers was another of a series of joyous OMGs for me throughout both conferences:\u00a0Fred Trotter, Michael Millenson, Carla Berg, Casey Quinlan, Dr Alan Greene, Ms Cheryl Greene, Sarah Kucharski, Leana Wen, Catherine Rose, Leslie Kernisan.<\/p>\n<p>Wearing my <a title=\"Regina Holliday's Walking Gallery\" href=\"http:\/\/reginaholliday.blogspot.com\/2011\/04\/walking-gallery.html\" target=\"_blank\">Walking Gallery<\/a> Jacket meant I could turn my back on another Walker and be assured of a warm welcome.
