This came over my transom from a friend who works with a major medical school’s digital publishing group. Seems both relevant, and high impact. – Casey\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n by Candace Barnes<\/p>\n i.<\/p>\n When I left for the hospital<\/p>\n The night was bitter cold,<\/p>\n And snow lay on the ground.<\/p>\n I know of weather what I\u2019m told;<\/p>\n There is no weather here.<\/p>\n ii.<\/p>\n My stay is longer than expected<\/p>\n And day folds into day.<\/p>\n Time passes slowly, hour by hour,<\/p>\n Less real the longer I stay.<\/p>\n But still the time marches on.<\/p>\n iii.<\/p>\n Coming home from the hospital,<\/p>\n The chill was gone from the air.<\/p>\n The snow has melted all away;<\/p>\n The yard is dotted with crocus here and there<\/p>\n And daffodils push through the ground.<\/p>\n iv.<\/p>\n While I was ill the seasons changed.<\/p>\n I left in dead winter, came home in early spring.<\/p>\n Just as the seasons chase one another,<\/p>\n My illness waxes and wanes.<\/p>\n If I am patient, spring changes come again.<\/p>\n Candace Barnes has been writing poetry since she was a child, finding solace in\u00a0putting her private struggles into poetry. Barnes is the author of two books, one\u00a0of which, <\/em>Journey from Darkness<\/a><\/strong>, is an anthology of her poetry. She has lived in\u00a0northern New Jersey for over 40 years, and has been diagnosed with chronic\u00a0intestinal pseudo obstruction for 12 years.
