The importance of this partnership cannot be overstated; its supporters range from the Institute of Medicine to the World Health Organization, echoing the words of visionary physicians like our movement\u2019s founder \u201cDoc Tom\u201d Ferguson and health data visionary Warner Slack MD, a colleague of SPM founders, who said patients are \u201cthe most under-used resource\u201d in the healthcare system.<\/p>\n<p>Anything that restricts families\u2019 access to that system harms healthcare, not to mention children, adults, and elders in their time of need. Preventing this societal harm &#8211; by ensuring access to care &#8211; was the foundational purpose of the Affordable Care Act \u2026 more correctly known, in fact, as the <em><strong>Patient Protection<\/strong><\/em> and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Yet twice opponents of this act have sought to defeat it.<\/p>\n<p>In yesterday&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/opinions\/14pdf\/14-114_qol1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">King v Burwell<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0decision the US Supreme Court has cleared the way for PPACA\u2019s promise to be fully delivered to the American people.
