It also means I understand what is happening and ultimately have a say in the kind of care I receive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/psychcentral.com\/blog\/show\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-20869\" src=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/09\/psychcentralshow-300x82.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"373\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/09\/psychcentralshow-300x82.jpg 300w, https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/09\/psychcentralshow.jpg 721w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"gabehoward.com\">Gabe<\/a>, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/psychcentral.com\/about\/john-grohol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Grohol, PsyD<\/a>, founder of <a href=\"PsychCentral.com\">PsychCentral.com<\/a>, will present \u201cTalking Mental Health\u201d at the Society for Participatory Medicine\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/s4pm.info\/conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2nd\u00a0Annual Conference<\/a>, which takes place Wednesday, October 17, in Boston, attached to the prestigious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.connectedhealthconf.org\/boston\/2018\">Connected Health conference<\/a>. Their session <strong>will be a live recording of the popular <a href=\"http:\/\/psychcentral.com\/show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psych Central Show Podcast<\/a>. <\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Grohol, an SPM\u00a0co-founder\u00a0and board member, noted that Gabe and co-host Vincent Wales have done nearly 100 podcast episodes since 2016, bringing a mental health or psychology topic into focus, usually with the help of an expert guest. \u201cWe see The Psych Central Show podcast as one more modality that allows us to reach a new generation of people,\u201d Dr. Grohol said. Of Gabe, Dr. Grohol added, \u201cHe is always thinking about new projects and possibilities to help expand our educational reach to a broader audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main takeaway,\u201d Gabe said of his upcoming live podcast session at SPM, \u201cwill hopefully be how important it is for everyone&#8211;but especially patients&#8211;to pay attention to their mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Grohol added, \u201cWhat most people don\u2019t realize about mental health is that it\u2019s a part of everyone\u2019s life whether they give it any attention or not. When we neglect this component of our life, it has the potential to negatively impact other areas, such as the quality of our relationships, work, and stress levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As he considers how he himself will spend his time at the SPM conference, Gabe said, \u201cI want to learn how to be a better advocate, how the different \u2018illness spaces\u2019 connect, and what we all have in common.
