In the photo from the award ceremony she seems appropriately thrilled.:-)<\/p>\n<p>A Parkinson&#8217;s patient, Sara is truly an exemplary e-patient. She <a href=\"http:\/\/www.riggare.se\/category\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blogs<\/a> as &#8220;Sara the self tracker,&#8221; says she&#8217;s &#8220;not patient but im-patient,&#8221; and has long been a leader in the <a href=\"https:\/\/medicinex.stanford.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medicine X<\/a> community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-21209 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English.jpg 1672w, https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English-278x300.jpg 278w, https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English-768x828.jpg 768w, https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English-950x1024.jpg 950w, https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/01\/Sara-red-dot-Selfcare-infographic-English-1080x1164.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a>She&#8217;s also the creator of the &#8220;one red dot&#8221; meme that is shown at many conferences (but not enough!). As the text says, it makes the point that the vast majority of what she does to manage her condition is in self-care; each dot is one hour of the year. The one red dot is the two 30 minute appointments with her specialists; the blue dots show when she&#8217;s on her own.<\/p>\n<p>This reality precisely illustrates what Doc Tom Ferguson knew when, in the 1980s, he published\u00a0<em>Medical Self-Care\u00a0<\/em>magazine.
