I&#8217;ll copy\/paste here from the conference&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.devdays.com\/amsterdam\/patient-track\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Patient Innovator Track (opens in a new tab)\">Patient Innovator Track<\/a> page:<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:post-content -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:separator --><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/><!-- \/wp:separator -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>The following applicants have been invited to present their achievement on Wednesday, November 20: <em>[Alphabetically by presenter&#8217;s name]<\/em><\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:more -->\r\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:more -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:list -->\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/ardyarianpour\/\">Ardy Arianpour<\/a>, <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/seqster.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Seqster<\/strong><\/a> (app, pronounced &#8220;seekster&#8221;): &#8220;Solved Interoperability Through Patient Centricity&#8221; &#8211; combines EHR data, consumer genetics, and data from devices \/ wearables<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>SPM member Brenda Denzler (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/TheOrigBigScary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"@TheOrigBigScary (opens in a new tab)\">@TheOrigBigScary<\/a>):<\/strong> &#8220;Using readily available health monitoring devices to track and report real-time symptoms&#8221; &#8211; tracked and organized O2 and other data to convince her doctors they&#8217;d misdiagnosed her<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>John Keyes (<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnKeyes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"@JohnKeyes (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>@JohnKeyes<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong>: blood disease patient &#8211; developed <a href=\"https:\/\/bloodnumbers.com\/2019-09-13-bloodnumbers-preview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">BloodNumbers app<\/a> to track blood test results over time &#8211; focused and practical<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Francisco Javier Logrono<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foundation29.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Foundation 29 (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>Foundation 29<\/strong><\/a>: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/ng\/app\/health29\/id1437820210\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Health 29 (opens in a new tab)\">Health 29<\/a>&#8221; (app) \u2013 Interoperable data platform for rare disease patients<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:separator --><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/><!-- \/wp:separator -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:heading -->\r\n<h2>At last: I.T. that&#8217;s focused on <em>patient <\/em>value, <em>patient <\/em>empowerment<!-- \/wp:heading -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/h2>\r\n<p>Having been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epatientdave.com\/2019\/06\/21\/fhir-on-the-horizon-ten-part-blog-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"crusading for a decade (opens in a new tab)\">crusading for a decade<\/a> to encourage data mobility <em>for the benefit of the consumer<\/em>, the <em>patient<\/em>, (not just the business needs of the &#8220;data holder&#8221;), I&#8217;m thrilled at this competition. At conference after conference, health IT people have talked about maybe someday trying to squeeze in some patient value, if it doesn&#8217;t get in the way of their quarterly work objectives.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In contrast to this, the HL7 FHIR organization said explicitly this June that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tincture.io\/hl7-makes-it-official-fhir-exists-to-serve-patient-needs-c0dfbc4dd829\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">#FHIR exists to serve <em>patient<\/em> needs<\/a>.\u00a0That shows up in the criteria developed for this competition:<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:quote -->\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">Direct impact on the patient\u2019s health or treatment Empowerment of the patient to take control Possible relevance for other patients, ideally as an app that might use FHIR someday Proven usage in daily life<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>Each of these finalists was chosen for patient empowerment through data, in a clearly identifiable way. And personally I&#8217;m thrilled that the four turned out to be two companies (apps) and two individuals, because that answers the too-common question:<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:quote -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:quote {\"className\":\"is-style-large\"} -->\r\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large\">What would patients even <em><strong>do<\/strong> <\/em>with the data if they had it??<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>See, once medicine accepts that patients &#8211; people without medical training &#8211; really can get value (and even <em>create <\/em>value) from health data, it&#8217;s no longer defensible to keep their data from them.
