This post kicks off a major 2021 campaign for our Society: <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>Participatory Medicine Manifesto.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At that event we took action: in a design-thinking exercise, attendees crowdsourced the ideas that have become this manifesto. In the 18 months since, we&#8217;ve refined the ideas, drafted the text, and tested it repeatedly with numerous audiences, within our society and beyond. At last it&#8217;s finished, and has been produced as a gorgeous <a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/SPM-Manifesto-01-21.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two-page full color PDF<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please watch this two minute video from some of us, <a href=\"http:\/\/SignTheManifesto.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">read about the manifesto<\/a>, and sign <a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/manifesto\/pledge\/\">the Pledge page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YRdM6TDL-eU?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<h1>Imagine healthcare as a true partnership<\/h1>\n<p>&#8220;Participatory&#8221; really does mean partnership. As this excerpt from the manifesto shows, in each of five areas, we put forth matching promises between professionals and their patients:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/03\/Manifesto-pledges-capture.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-21844\" src=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/03\/Manifesto-pledges-capture.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"523\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/03\/Manifesto-pledges-capture.jpg 523w, https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/03\/Manifesto-pledges-capture-480x503.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 523px, 100vw\" \/><\/a>It&#8217;s the fulfillment of themes we&#8217;ve been writing about for more than a decade, when we echoed the <a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/2010\/03\/nspfs-universal-patient-compact.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPSF&#8217;s patient compact<\/a> in a post. That compact voiced the ideas in a context of paternal caring; today we say it&#8217;s #Time4Change &#8211; full partnership.<\/p>\n<h1>What&#8217;s next<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Promulgating this is a principal campaign for SPM in 2021.<\/strong> We&#8217;ll <\/span>be having a series of <strong>online forums<\/strong> about different aspects of it, culminating in <strong>an event late this year<\/strong> which focuses on making the manifesto&#8217;s promise a reality for individuals and organizations.<\/p>\n<p>You can help: Sign on, and share with your networks. The manifesto&#8217;s page <a href=\"http:\/\/SignTheManifesto.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SignTheManifesto.org<\/a> has everything you need: social media images, the two page PDF of the manifesto, and the heart of the matter &#8211; why we&#8217;re doing it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There are three parts to the Manifesto.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The manifesto itself, what we believe in one paragraph<\/li>\n<li>The highest level areas that we agree to focus on.<\/li>\n<li>Most importantly, are the \u201cI Will\u201d statements that we created based on everyone\u2019s input. These are the key, they are what makes this more than a piece of paper. These are the things that we hope everyone agrees to take on. For example,\u00a0<em>As a Patient, I will be prepared to share my story and experiences completely, accurately, and honestly.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h1>Take action! Time for change.<\/h1>\n<p>Please: the world needs healthcare to be more participatory.\u00a0<em><strong>Read<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>the manifesto.\u00a0<em><strong>Think<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>about these five exquisitely important concepts, and how they look in partnership.\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/manifesto\/pledge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sign<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>&#8211; and share. Get your friends involved, too.
