He&#8217;s an <em>awesome<\/em> (and I mean it) speaker, articulate and inspiring. First up: <strong>We need a catchier name<\/strong> for &#8220;CHDI.&#8221; So you can <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/renamechdi.uservoice.com\/forums\/59363-rename-chdi\" target=\"_blank\">go vote<\/a><\/strong>. As I write this, after a week there are a measly 200 votes, and since every participant gets TEN\u00a0 votes, it means our participation sucks!\u00a0 Get off your butt &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/renamechdi.uservoice.com\/forums\/59363-rename-chdi\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>go vote<\/strong><\/a>, and tell friends!<\/p>\n<p>I assert that a great name for this project would be one that&#8217;s clear and makes it obvious to the right people what&#8217;s going on.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The name will appear in press releases, blog post headlines, RSS feeds,  tweets, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Readers today give a split second to things, unless their interest is caught. So it&#8217;s great if a name requires no explanation.<\/li>\n<li>Who are the right people? Most of all (IMO) it&#8217;s the people from whom we want <em>action<\/em>: innovators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By that standard the name should make clear, in an instant,what it&#8217;s about. So I suggested <strong>OpenHealthData.gov<\/strong>.\u00a0 Somebody else suggested <strong>HealthData.gov<\/strong>, because shorter names are generally better.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/renamechdi.uservoice.com\/forums\/59363-rename-chdi\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Go  vote<\/strong><\/a>, and tell friends!<br \/>\n________<\/p>\n<p>Related resources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Here&#8217;s our June 6 post <a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/archives\/2010\/06\/community-health-data-initiative-vast-amounts-of-health-data-freed-for-innovators-to-mash-up.html\">our June 6 post<\/a> about the amazing event Todd promised, with the apps that innovators have already developed, out of nowhere, just because they got their hands on the data. Smart innovators will pick up this &#8220;free fuel&#8221; and use it, while dumb ones will say &#8220;Huh? What good is health data?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Susannah Fox&#8217;s June 2 post, before the launch\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/archives\/2010\/06\/making-health-data-sing-even-if-its-a-familiar-song.html\">Making Health Data Sing (even if it&#8217;s an old song)<\/a>. She&#8217;s cautiously skeptical &#8211; &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Pew  Internet<\/a> research finds that at least some Americans have an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/Reports\/2010\/Government-Online\/Part-Four.aspx?r=1\" target=\"_blank\">appetite for government data<\/a>. Do they have an  appetite for doing something about it?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Me, well, I&#8217;m just hungry for innovation. Last summer at HHS, Susannah <a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/archives\/2009\/09\/hipaa-is-so-1996.html\">quoted<\/a> one of my lines:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I want innovation at a rate that resembles the rate of improvement in  cell phones and iPods: I want to think, in 2011, that the healthcare  tool I started using in 2009 is, well, \u201cthat\u2019s SO 2009,\u201d just the way  many people think about their cell phones.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For innovators, information is fuel. So to me, this project is like free fuel.
