Nowhere is that more apparent than in how social media is connecting us.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago Erik Qualmann (@equalmann), author of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialnomics.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Socialnomics<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0blew millions of minds with a frenzied  YouTube fact flurry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sIFYPQjYhv8\" target=\"_blank\">Social Media Revolution<\/a>, then a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lFZ0z5Fm-Ng\" target=\"_blank\">2010 update<\/a>. Now this year&#8217;s version is out, with mellower music but no less impact.<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"560\" height=\"349\" codebase=\"https:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/x0EnhXn5boM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Planners everywhere, please understand how important this is.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If Facebook were a country it&#8217;d be the third largest &#8211; even though it&#8217;s banned in China.<\/li>\n<li>The 2009 edition noted that in 2008, 1 in 8 US marriages met online. (I met my wife on Match.com in 1999.)\n<ul>\n<li>This year&#8217;s edition says 1 in 5 couples meet online.<\/li>\n<li>And 1 in 5 divorces are blamed on Facebook.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>50% of UK mobile internet traffic is Facebook &#8211; &#8220;imagine what this means for bad customer experiences.&#8221; (I&#8217;d add: and for good ones!)<\/li>\n<li>Social gamers will buy $6 billion in virtual goods; US movie goers only buy $2.5 billion in real popcorn<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A healthcare video in this genre, citing many Socialnomics figures, is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/participatorymedicine.org\/epatients\/archives\/2009\/10\/the-internet-is-changing-healthcare-video-from-reshape09.html\" target=\"_blank\">this video<\/a> by our friend Lucien Engelen (@Zorg20) of Radboud UMC (Dutch academic medical center) from his &#8220;Reshape 09&#8221; conference.<\/p>\n<p>And for completeness, the original of this genre is the high-energy &#8220;Right here, right now!&#8221; video titled &#8220;Did You Know,&#8221; researched by Karl Fisch, Scott McLeod, and Jeff Brenman.
