February 10 Executive Committee minutes approved

Treasurer’s Report
SPM is in good financial shape. We continue to seek ways to raise money through our development efforts and engage and retain our corporate members.  Our membership continues to grow.

Strategy Discussion

We are working on refining our value proposition and how we deliver that value proposition to prospective corporate members. We agreed that so many of our members speak at conferences frequently, we need to provide them with tools that enable them to easily incorporate the SPM logo and value proposition into the discussion.

Opportunities

SPM/ ACP relationship.  We are working with the Patient Family Institute at the American College of Physicians on best practices in participatory medicine.  .

CME Continuing Medical Education

Danny just finished recording a series of videos for Continuing Medical Education (CME), funded by Clinical Care Options on how to manage patients with chronic disease.

American College of Radiologists (ACR)

Nick is giving some lectures at ACR meeting on participatory medicine, representing SPM.

SPM Australia

There has been a groundswell of support for creating a branch of SPM in Australia, following presentations by Danny, Dave and Regina at The Health Informatics Society of Australia. Local patient activists have offered their support to help raise funds by tapping companies in Australia. We are working on a document that would outline the guidelines for new chapters throughout the world.

Learning Exchange

Many of our members practice participatory medicine every day.  We are putting together a learning exchange to leverage their expertise and how we collectively are advancing the movement. To kick off this initiative we are going to have members of the Executive Committee and Board hold the first Learning Exchange on Google Hang-Outs late in March.
Partnering with MedX,

We discussed a proposal to partner with MedX to develop education modules on participatory medicine. Our President, Nick Dawson who is on the MedX board, and new board members Donna Cryer and Kyra Bobinet will meet with Larry Chu of MedX to discuss and formalize this relationship.

HIMSS

Our Director of Development Julia Pagan has had discussions with HIMSS.  We have two free passes to attend the HIMSS conference in April. One will be used by Julia and one is available for a member who is interested in attending on behalf of SPM.

Awards event

We are planning an awards event in the fall to honor individuals/companies who have done outstanding work in the area of participatory medicine. We hope to have corporate sponsorship of tables which could include a couple of free seats for patients.  We hope to hold this event in conjunction with one of the major conferences held in the fall.

New Proposed Initiatives

Encouraging our members to talk more about us by giving them the proper tools

Creating a database of speakers, who they are and where they speak; use that as leverage to approach corporations for memberships and sponsorships

Developing a 30 minute video on the four things you must do to be participatory

Creating a publishing unit that includes the Journal and the blog that could be fundable.

Challenges

Money, raising more funds.

Understanding why people join SPM.

Creating a larger volunteer base of members to help with programs and initiatives: Find volunteers for three key committees:

Membership,
Fundraising,
Communications/outreach

Improving our visibility and messaging to create a broader understanding of who we are.

Board Meetings
The Board will meet every other month.  The Next Board Meeting will be on April 21, at 4 pm, ET
