Mark Reifsteck, MHAIt is an exciting time within the Society for Participatory Medicine (S4PM)!  The New Year for the organization began with renewed energy for advancing the work of the Society, which in part is to bring engaged patients and engaged providers together in collaboration to further better, more effective care.

Under the leadership of Joe Ternullo, President-Elect, Donna Cryer, Co-Chairperson, Jon Wald, President and Danny Sands, Chairman; the S4PM board has adopted an aggressive set of initiatives to drive growth, relevance and sustainability of the Society.  Each initiative has a board member committed to its completion as well as members of the Society to help achieve those results.

If there is a project you are especially interested in contact the board member associated with that initiative (see below). Project plans are currently being developed with specific goals, tactics and milestones.  These are due by April 1 and will be communicated to the membership more broadly once accepted and approved by the Board.

The initiatives are:

External Communications
With board leadership from Dave deBronkart and Eric Glazer this initiative aims to expand the visibility of the society with external stakeholders.

Internal Communications
John Hoben leads this effort to help insure transparency and openness with all members regarding the activities of the Society.

Journal of Participatory Medicine
Led by Jon Wald, this initiative is intended to increase submissions and reviewers to the Journal as well as increasing the stature and impact of the journal.

Learning Exchange
Sarah Krug heads up this activity and is recruiting team members to collect and curate best practices in participatory medicine and spotlight members’ activities promoting Participatory Medicine.

Medical Education
This effort led by Peter Elias is to develop a curriculum on principles of Participatory Medicine for medical students and other providers.

Receptions/Conference Visibility
Donna Cryer and Danny Sands co-lead this effort to attract more members and gain more visibility for the Society at related conferences, receptions and symposia.

Fund Raising/Corporate Donations
To improve sustainability of the Society, Kyra Bobinet is teaming with Mark Reifsteck to generate donations to help support the ongoing operations of the Society. This effort began in earnest with Kyra challenging all board members at its recent meeting to donate to the society so that we have 100% board participation.

Website Maintenance an Enhancement
Through the leadership of John Grohol this initiative will plan for and develop budget requirements for enhancing the Society’s website.

Individual Membership
Mark Reifsteck has recruited a small team of members to develop specific plans to increase both annual and lifetime members.

Once the specific plans are reviewed and approved by the Board and Executive Committee… leaders of the initiatives will be looking for active committee members to help with their efforts.  If you see something above that interests you don’t wait — reach out to that initiative leader today!
