I originally became a member of the Society for Participatory Medicine because I was curious to learn about global research for e-patients and e-health.

The society promotes a diverse and inclusive culture which is critical to sustainable health IT system development (SDG3). They provide a safe platform for patients to network between each other, however all stakeholders including high-level providers and others participate equally. They have several ongoing projects to promote idea sharing and P2P support for members. I often find that these ideas help to answer many of the difficult questions I have relating to my own healthcare social media work in South Africa. One project which is due to launch soon is an online social network dedicated to global participatory medicine and I personally believe that is the answer to resolving many issues we have all experienced in healthcare during the past.
