We lost a great one today.
Jody Schoger @JodyMS was one of the founders of #BCSM (breast cancer social media), the first patient community that started on Twitter and grew into a 501(c)(3) organization, bcsm.org. She passed on this morning, and Twitter is in tears.
Nothing we could say here could come close to the beautiful homage penned by her co-founder Alicia Staley (@Stales) on the BCSM blog, Good Night, Jody, a play on their favorite signoff from the children’s book “Good night, moon.”
Good night, Jody. You will be missed.
Twitter is in tears, indeed. Beautiful memories of Jody — our friend, mentor, colleague and comrade-in-arms – are available online and in our hearts.
I am in tears as I write this, having met Jody at a Cooks Branch retreat. Her strength and example to me as I found out I had breast cancer was no doubt typical of her help to so many.
I love the reminder of our frailty and our mission in the Bible verse offered by Alicia Staley on her post. “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-7
We are all in tears, those of us who saw her life poured out for so many while she lived. What an example of determined, thoughtful, compassionate advocacy she provided. We will miss her sorely.
